What is self storage and how does it work?

Renting a self storage unit is a great way to create much-needed space at home or your business. Our Decatur IL Storage facility provides top-notch customer service, 24/7 video surveillance, fully gated with individual keycode access at affordable prices.

What is the best way to pack a unit?

Places your items in boxes that are clearly labeled is a great way to start. Items that are infrequently used or larger should be stored in the back. It’s a great idea to create a walkway through the center of your unit so you can easily access your items throughout the self-storage unit. Clearly marking your boxes/bins of items will make retrieving specific items a breeze.

Do you provide locks?

We do not provide locks for our storage units. Please bring a lock of your choice – we highly recommend a lock called a disc lock / cylinder lock. These provide the highest level of security out of any lock.

How has access to my storage space?

You are the only who has access to your unit. You lock it and you keep the key.

How does billing work?

Your rent is prorated so that it is due on the first of each month. We do not charge a security deposit for your unit. We do charge a one-time, non-refundable service fee upon the rental of your rent.

What is the minimum rental commitment?

All of our rental agreements are month-month. Use the unit for your desired amount of time. With American Way Storage, you don’t have to worry about signing a lease for a period longer than you need the unit.

What do I do if I lost my key to my lock?

Please contact us at 217-215-3080 and we will cut your lock off for a small service fee. You are not allowed to cut your own lock off as you could damage the door and latch. Cutting off your own lock will lead to an immediate termination of your lease.
